Clean is Relative

If you have ever stayed in any sort of hotel you know how dirty such a place can be. As a matter of fact, “can” is a misnomer, because every hotel room contains all kinds of nasty things that can make you sick or just gross you out. If your immune system is good you probably won’t get sick, but you still need to watch out.

The general rule about hotel rooms is that the more expensive the place is, the cleaner it tends to be. The cheapest room you can get at the economy motel is most likely a good deal dirtier than the mid range room you get for a couple of hundred dollars per night. As well, the Presidential suite is most likely a whole lot cleaner than the mid-range room. The cleanliness of a room is related to more than just the amount of money you pay to stay in it, however.

The ultimate measure of a room’s level of cleanliness is the amount of time the cleaning people spend actually making it more habitable. If you want to be certain your room is going to be very clean, write a brief note about exactly what you want to have cleaned, and put a large amount of money with the note in a prominent place within the room. While this won’t guarantee that the work gets done, it will give you the best likelihood of having your room be the cleanest one in your particular area.
